It could be because you “should be able to grow” or because some player said that “it’s good because you get better reach, so you reach further”. But no, you shouldn’t have an extra long hockey stick. Especially not for children and young people. A stick that is too long for children directly results in an incorrect position on the skates. Children with too long sticks unconsciously stand up, “because they can”. The same applies to young people, even if they say that “they are aware and think about it”. When you are not strong in the legs, which children are not, or when you get tired as you do during intensive training or shifts – then you stand up if you can.

Buy a hockey stick that is the right length. The correct length is, simply put, 1 cm above the tip of the nose if you stand barefoot and look straight ahead.
Should you have an extra long stick?
Is extra long hockeystick good? The answer is no. Certainly not if you are a younger hockey player. It becomes so incredibly easy that you as a player unintentionally take a too upright riding position. You can miss out on years of development if it goes wrong. We come across parents who say that “it goes well if you learn to hold your elbow up”, and in this way it works. That might be an option. But we suggest that you invest in the right stick length during the period when you maximize your skating development.
